| RECORDING:
Thank you for calling Planned Parenthood Mare Monte Surgical Services. (dial
sound) One moment, please, while I transfer your call. (ringing 2X)
CLINIC: Thank
you for calling Planned Parenthood. How may I help you?
CALLER: Hi.
Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there?
CLINIC: Yes,
we do.
CALLER: Oh.
How much does that cost?
CLINIC:
What's your gross monthly income?
CALLER: I
don't have a job. I'm going to be -- I'm only 13. I'll be 14 like next week
though.
CLINIC: 14
weeks?
CALLER: 14
years old.
CLINIC: Oh,
you're going to be 14 years old. Okay. Hold on a second, okay?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC:
(pause) Hello?
CALLER: Yeah.
CLINIC: Okay. So do you know how far
along you are?
CALLER: Well,
no. I'm just kind of worried because I haven't had my period since like
December 26, so I don't -- I'm just scared.
CLINIC: Okay.
When was it?
CALLER:
December 26, the day after Christmas.
CLINIC: Okay,
so you're like 9 weeks to 10 weeks, and let me see. You have no income,
right?
CALLER:
Right. Well, the thing is, my friend told me that you guys would have to
tell my parents, but my boyfriend's 22. And he said that he would pay for
everything. Is it all right if he takes care of it all and you wouldn't have
to tell anybody?
CLINIC: And
if you get Medical for minor's consent, we still wouldn't tell your parents.
CALLER: Oh.
CLINIC: And
like if you were to come here that's why we are here, you know, like for you
guys because like it's confidential. So nobody's going to go and tell your
parents. (laughs)
CALLER: Okay.
All right.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: So
it's just my boyfriend doesn't want anyone to know about us. If he was
paying though, would he have to sign anything?
CLINIC: No.
No. No.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You
could just apply for minor's consent Medical.
CALLER: Okay.
Could I come in to get a pregnancy test just to make sure though?
CLINIC: Yes.
CALLER: Okay.
Well, how much does that cost?
CLINIC: You
can apply -- you're eligible for the SOSP card. It's like a green card that
Planned Parenthood gives out for people who qualify for it.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: That
covers pregnancy tests, pap smear, any STD testing you want to get done,
things like that. So you apply for it so you can come and do the pregnancy
test and at the same time you do the pregnancy test say you want to apply
for the SOSP card.
CALLER: SOST?
CLINIC:
Uh-huh.
CALLER: Okay.
If it turned out that I wasn't pregnant, could I get birth control and that
would take care of it too?
CLINIC: Yes.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: And
let's say - our next available walk-in there will be next Monday from 9 to
4, so you can come in that day.
CALLER: The
thing is, I'm not old enough to drive. Could my boyfriend pick up the birth
control pills if I was on those?
CLINIC: No.
Can he bring he?
CALLER: Well,
yeah.
CLINIC: Yeah.
I don't know. I mean, I'm not trying to give you bad tips, but well on that
days keeps going they come and get their, you know. Like if he can bring
you?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: If
you don't want your mom and dad to know, you know what I mean?
CALLER:
Right, yeah.
CLINIC: Yeah.
Yeah, don't worry. We wouldn't tell anybody.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER:
You've just been so nice. Could I call you if I had any other questions?
What was your name?
CLINIC: My
name is Dahlia.
CALLER: Okay.
Monday 9 to 4?
CLINIC: Yeah.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: All
right, thanks.
CLINIC: Thank
you.
CALLER: Bye.
CLINIC: Bye.
(phone clicks)
